Sydney bikie boss Sam Ibrahim 'to be deported on character grounds'

Sydney bikie boss Sam Ibrahim is reportedly set to be deported from Australia after failing the Government’s character test for foreign nationals.

Ibrahim, 49, was jailed last year for running an illegal firearms syndicate, threatening to kill a former business partner and intimidating officers.

He was born in Lebanon and moved to Australia as a child.

The ABC reports Immigration Minister Peter Dutton has revoked Ibrahim’s visa and has signed papers ordering the bikie’s deportation.

Mr Dutton revealed in June more than 400 criminals’ visas had been revoked on character grounds and 57 had been deported.

Mr Dutton’s office has refused to confirm the report but issued a statement.

"Protecting the Australian community is the number one priority of this Government,” his office told the ABC in a statement.

"We won't tolerate people coming to our country and thinking they can commit serious crime and remain here.

"If they're here on a visa and involved in criminal activity, we will act to remove them and eliminate the threat they pose to that community."

Ibrahim has 28 days to formally appeal the decision.
