Two arrested after gun found in car at Sydney Airport

A man and woman have been arrested after a gun was found in a car near Sydney Airport this afternoon.

A 23-year-old man attended a car rental service at Sydney’s Domestic Airport this morning to report that he lost the key to a car he rented on Saturday.

An attendant retrieved the car from a fast food outlet on Ross Smith Avenue, Mascot.

While returning the car back to the rental office at the airport, the attendant located a gun inside it.

The attendant stopped the car on Shiers Avenue, outside the domestic terminal, and contacted the Australian Federal Police.

AFP officers seized the car and the gun and arrested the 23-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman at the car rental office at 2pm.

The woman was taken into custody by the AFP and the man was taken to Mascot Police Station where he is currently assisting police with their investigation.

The incident is not believed to be terror related.
