Services restored at Sydney Airport after tower evacuated

Flights have been delayed and diverted at Sydney Airport after an air traffic control tower was evacuated.

An Air Services Australia spokesperson told 9News the incident was sparked due to a gas leak.

Fumes are believed to have spread through the air conditioning.

Nobody was harmed in the incident.

The tower remained evacuated for an hour, with firefighting crews in attendance.

However, all services have now been restored and the ground stop and notice to pilots have been cancelled.

Two international United Airlines flights were diverted during the incident, with one aircraft sent to Brisbane and the other to Canberra.

However, multiple passengers on Twitter claimed their flights had been delayed, with fears they might miss connecting services.
