Airlines back on track after Sydney Airport delays

Airlines have cleared a backlog of passengers affected by delayed and cancelled flights as a result of powerful winds that lashed the east coast of Australia and caused airport chaos.

Crowds formed at Sydney Airport’s International and Domestic terminals yesterday after it was forced to close the majority of its runways, amid wind gusts of up to 70km/h.

The dangerous weather saw 70 flights cancelled out of Sydney and hundreds of frustrated passengers left stranded at the airport.

Today, seven flights remained delayed and seven more Jetstar flights from Sydney have been cancelled.

However, Qantas and Virgin put on extra services to deal with the backlog, and services are back on track.

In Brisbane, airlines also worked to solve a backlog of passengers affected by the weather issues in Sydney yesterday.

More than 50 flights were cancelled out of the Queensland capital, however those issues appear to have subsided today.

Brisbane Airport has 40 scheduled flights to Sydney, and only two Jetstar services have been cancelled this morning so far.

Other domestic airline services appear to be running according to schedule.

Brisbane Airport nonetheless is still advising travellers to allow extra time arriving for their flights.
