It was the perfect Mother’s Day gift for the perfect recipient.

Breast cancer survivor Nonna Rosa Tigani was overwhelmed this morning when TODAY’s Stevie Jacobs arrived on her doorstep with a $10,000 cheque as part of the morning program’s Knock of Cash.

The 66-year-old Melbourne grandmother was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in December and has been receiving treatment once a week ever since.

“It is really hard for her emotionally and obviously, physically,” daughter Mary said.

Mary, along with her brother Vince and Bruno managed to keep the whole plot a secret, even telling their mother they had nominated one of her friends for the cash prize.

“We love you mum and we hope that this will put a smile on your face, a genuine one that we haven’t seen for a while,” Mary told her mother, after arriving with Jacobs and a camera crew in tow.

“We wanted to nominate you mum, we think you’re amazing. We wanted to do something for you.”

Nonna raised her three children as a single mother after she lost her husband in 1991.

“Why you surprise me with this money?” a stunned Nonna exclaimed as she struggled to even unlock the front door of her Moonee Ponds home.

“Stevie Jacobs you make me cry every morning with your Knock of Cash.”

Jacobs handed over the blue envelope, which was quickly clutched to the chest of a teary eyed Nonna.

“Oh my god! Thankyou! I watch you on the show every time,” she said.

“I love Karl and you.”
