Surgery injection boost for Vic patients

Nearly 200,000 Victorians will get the surgery they need sooner thanks to a funding boost in the 2016-17 Victorian Budget.

Health Minister Jill Hennessy on Sunday announced $335 million over four years for additional elective surgery and an immediate $20 million capital works injection.

"We want Victorians happy and healthy ... The sooner they can get their surgeries, the sooner they can recover and get back to their normal lives and families," Ms Hennessy told reporters at the Austin Hospital.

Additional funding for this year is the equivalent of:

* 3100 coronary artery bypass grafts

* 6700 hip replacements

* 6800 knee replacements

* 22,000 sinus and ear operations

* 34,000 eye surgeries
