Surfing boat skipper cops a spray for NT video

A Territory boat skipper's unusual navigation technique has landed him in hot water after police obtained footage of the man hanging ten on an outboard engine.

The young barefoot man, perched on the Honda four-stroke motor, appears to be the only person onboard the boat as it passes another vessel on a reportedly croc-infested river in the Northern Territory.

The passengers on the passing boat cheer the daredevil's antics and film him as he stretched out his arms as if balancing to ride a wave.

The man was not wearing a lifejacket or was not using a killswitch cord.

Video of the stunt, which was handed in anonymously to NT News, is being investigated by police.

The man who discovered the footage said he was shocked.

"I'm totally against that and those bow waves create erosion in the banks and mangroves are nursery (sic) for fish," he said.

"You're also destroying the creek there.

"It's just hooning at its best."

The mystery man could be fined $7200 for reckless driving of a watercraft and risking injury to others if caught.

He could be slapped with an additional $1440 penalty if police deem the wash from the vessel posed a danger to the "safety of a person, boat or structure".
