Super Bowl LII: Sickening tackle sidelines Patriots receiver

A sickening tackle in the Super Bowl has seen New England Patriots receiver Brandin Cooks sidelined in the first half of the game.

After receiving a long pass from quarterback Tom Brady early in the second quarter, Cooks was blindsided by the Eagles' Malcolm Jenkins with a vicious hit that left him motionless on the ground.

While the hit appeared to involve the players knocking helmets, no penalty was called on the play.

The brutal tackle comes amid the ongoing debate about concussion among players of contact sports like the NFL.

The issue came to a head again this week after a Boston University study revealed 100 of 111 brains of former NFL players tested positive for the degenerative brain disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy, which is more commonly known as CTE.

Previous studies have found 40 percent of retired NFL players tested with advances scanning technology showed signs of traumatic brain injury, a much higher rate than the general population.
