Man survives death-defying 100m plunge over cliff edge

Emergency rescue crews have been left stunned by the miraculous survival of a Sunshine Coast man after his car plunged 100 metres down a steep mountain slope today.

Bloodied and bruised but somehow alive, Paul Robinson had to be dragged up the steep incline to a waiting ambulance.

He had just left church in Montville when his four-wheel drive veered off the road, careering over the cliff and plummeting down through thick hinterland scrub.

Passers-by who witnessed the crash, including a nurse and a paramedic, rushed down the mountain face and gave Mr Robinson first aid as emergency crews rushed to the scene.

“I’ve never seen anything like this. I don’t even know how he’s still alive, the distance he’s come down,” one witness told 9NEWS.

“He’s a very lucky man. He should get a gold lotto ticket,” fire fighter Matthew Foster told 9NEWS.

The local fire brigade then had the difficult task of getting the injured man back up the slope, using ropes rigged up to his stretcher.

“We just put in some stabilisation lines in for his safety in case anyone fell – it is very slippery,” firefighter Matthew Foster told 9NEWS.

Mr Robinson was taken to Sunshine Coast Hospital in a stable condition.

Mr Robinson’s church pastor attributes his parishioner’s incredible survival to divine intervention.

“To hear that he’s awake and doing okay, it’s just God’s protection. It’s amazing,” pastor Mark Green told 9NEWS.
