In a suburban gym in Melbourne, everyday Aussies are preparing themselves for a potential terror attack.

Former soldier Lior Offenbach has begun teaching anti-terror classes, equipping students with the skills to turn the tables on a gunman.

Students learn to crawl under fire, remove a wounded colleague and manipulate a terrorist.

The class is based on Krav Maga, the official fighting style of the Israeli Army.

“We live in a society where we have good and bad. You need to deal with the good and you need to deal with the bad. We will teach you how to deal with the bad,” Mr Offenbach said.

Most recently Mr Offenbach was a detective in East Jerusalem.

He now travels the world teaching.

Krav Maga is about being aware of the people around you and the space you might find yourself in.

The idea is that if a random or surprise attack was to occur, students will be able to deal with it instinctively.

A Sydney workshop is planned for February.
