Police target unsafe, illegally-modified vehicles in Sydney operation
On March 2, Highway Patrol officers from Darling Mills in Sydney's Hills district led an overnight operation - from 3pm to 3am - focusing on impaired driving.
The operation came after what police called an "increase" in modified and unsafe cars and motorbikes being used in the area.
Police said the operation was conducted using both an educational and enforcement approach".
Intercepted vehicles were directed to an inspection site.
A total of 31 vehicles were inspected throughout the 12 hours.
Of these 15 were issued with a "major grounded defect" notice.
These received a red label, meaning they could not be driven away.
A further six were issued with "non grounded defects", a yellow label fitted to their windscreens.
Police noted one motorcycle was found to have no vehicle identification number. It was seized pending further investigation.
