School bus with children onboard collides with metro bus in south Perth

A school bus collided with a state bus in south Perth this morning, causing commuter delays for close to two hours.

The St Norbert College school bus was carrying seven high school students when it collided with a Transperth metro bus at Ranford Rd, Canning Vale, at the Brennan Ave intersection just before 8am today.

"All the glass came over us because we were in the front and I just heard my sister yelling 'Daisy, Daisy' so I just ran straight to her," St Norbert student Daisy Jeeves told 9News.

"Looking at the bus driver, he had cuts all over him."

Fire and Rescue teams as well as WA Police attended the scene and were forced to remove the rear door of the school bus to free the children and bring them to safety.

The driver also had to be extracted and was among 10 people taken to hospital as a precaution. Dozens of others were assessed by paramedics at the scene.

"It could've been a lot worse and I think maybe peak hour worked to our advantage because traffic was going reasonably slow," WA Police Inspector Glen Willers told 9News.

"It's usually a 70km/h zone so it could've been going a lot quicker."

Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
