Perth supermarket staff subdue would-be robber after bottle held to teen

A 16-year-old girl has spoken of her terror as a would-be thief held a broken bottle to her stomach during a violent attempted robbery in Perth.

Selina Bell was working the tills at Carlisle IGA on Orrong Road at 8.20pm last night when the would-be robber struck.

CCTV shows the man walk up behind Selina before grabbing her and placing a broken bottle to her stomach and demanding money.

"It was really horrible," Selina told 9NEWS.

"I remember thinking 'if he doesn't choke me to death he's going to stab me with the top of the bottle.

"It was so scary."

But in a remarkable show of bravery Selina's co-workers came to her aid, grabbing the bandit and trying to subdue him.

Even shopper Culver Chappelle used his trolley to block him.

"There was a lot of screaming, obviously people's adrenalin was, you know, really going rampant," Mr Chappelle told 9NEWS.

After he was tackled to the ground the robber was tied up with dog leads and cable ties until police arrived 10 minutes later.

Police arrested the man but he has not yet been charged as he is still in hospital.
