Ex-police officer 'stabbed with scissors' after stopping to help man
A former police officer was stabbed in the chest with a pair of scissors when he stopped to help a man lying in a garden in Highgate in central Perth.
Darren Montgomery was walking down Beaufort Street at about 5.55pm yesterday when he and a woman he was with stopped to help a man who was prone on the ground.
But the good Samaritan's act allegedly prompted a violent reaction.

His friend was punched in the face, and Mr Montgomery was stabbed three times in the chest and shoulder with a pair of scissors.
"The woman that was with him was just applying first aid," witness Brooke Simmons said.
"And there was another civilian helping out."
Residents of the apartment block above the stabbing rushed to help.
"By that point they had him leaning against the pole, I was on the phone to Triple Zero," Ms Simmons said.
"They told me what to do and I passed a towel down to him because he was bleeding."

The alleged attacker fled the scene.
Another witness said he saw a "man in red" yelling as he ran across the road, stopping traffic.
The alleged stabber managed to run 800 metres to the corner of Beaufort and Newcastle streets, where he was arrested.
Police claimed the man was so aggressive they were forced to draw their tasers.
Vincent Ian Jones, 45, has been charged with grievous bodily harm and common assault.
He was refused bail and will face court in a fortnight.
