A man has died after being pulled from the water at a popular inner-city beach in Melbourne overnight.

Emergency services were called to St Kilda Pier after receiving reports a man was missing in the water about 8.25pm.

Rescuers pulled the man's body from the water in front of onlookers.

Police are not treating the man's death as suspicious.

St Kilda Pier recently opened after a massive redevelopment in December and is a popular spot for locals and tourists.
