Spouse tax offset to go with Labor support

Labor will agree to helping the government pass another 2014 budget measure, this time dumping a tax break for those with spouses who don't work.

The dependent spouse tax offset, which when abolished will save about $300 million over four years, has been stalled in the senate since last year.

But the opposition will support getting rid of it, as well as stopping a legislated increase in the tax-free threshold, the Financial Review reported on Tuesday.
