'Giant' spider invades BBC News bulletin

Viewers of BBC Scotland could be forgiven for thinking a giant arachnid invasion was underway, when a spider crawled across the screen to catch its prey.

The spider appeared troublingly huge, due to its close proximity to the camera lens, when it interrupted the early morning edition of Reporting Scotland to collect an insect before scuttling off out of the picture.

"Never mind the pandas: giant hungry spider invades Reporting Scotland at breakfast time!" newsreader Graham Stewart later tweeted.

He had seemed unperturbed on air during the incident and later admitted he was "completely unaware of what was going on until viewers began tweeting us".

"I hope our viewers weren't put off their breakfast — I know the spider certainly wasn't," said.
