'Thank goodness he didn’t have a passenger': Speeding motorist wraps car around tree in Adelaide

Fire crews say a driver who survived when he wrapped his ute around a tree is “the luckiest man in Adelaide”.

It’s believed the man may have been speeding along Henley Beach Road when he lost control and struck a tree in Fulham around 8pm last night.

Metropolitan Fire Services spokesman Brenton Honor said authorities were “fearful of what they’d find” inside the beaten wreckage.

“Thank goodness he didn’t have a passenger because you can see the tree has embedded into the middle of the vehicle. He’s probably the luckiest man in Adelaide tonight,” he said.

The victim’s friend, who was in another car, rushed to make sure the driver was okay.

He was assessed by paramedics, but police have confirmed he was not seriously injured.

“The crash is still under investigation,” a South Australia Police spokesman said.

The road was closed for some time but has since reopened.
