Clean up effort continues 24 hours after Brisbane is lashed by wild weather
More than 24 hours after the storm cell battered southeast Queensland, residents are assessing the damage and beginning the massive clean-up effort.
Dozens of people have been injured and a thousand properties damaged by the hurricane-force storm in Brisbane last night.
Wind gusts of more than 140km/hr were recorded and parts of the city were flooded.
As rain lashed down, stones shattered windows and the wind roared like a hurricane, one resident’s roof went flying down the road.
The inner suburbs of Brisbane were today picking up the pieces from the worst storm to hit the city in 30 years.

The damage was widespread and unit blocks on the riverfront were smashed.
At Archerfield, the city’s second airport, light planes and helicopters were flung about.
The wind carved its way across the open landing strip, nothing in the way, then smashed into the lines of aircraft and hangars.
A truck hit by giant gust was flipped over, crushing a passing car but the driver escaped unhurt.
In the city centre, shoppers and office workers were stranded, saturated and thrashed by hail stones while scores of businesses were flooded out.
“It’s actually really hard,” Desley Georgaf from Kidsafe Car Restraints said.
“This is the heart of the organisation so I just don’t know what’s going to happen.”
The city faces a huge clean-up effort after the city was walloped by the supercell storm, described by Premier Campbell Newman as the worst to hit southeast Queensland in almost 30 years.
Mr Newman said it eclipsed the 2008 storm at The Gap which left a repair bill of $86 million.
These are the 50 suburbs which have been affected:
Albion, Annerley, Archerfield, Ascot, Aspley, Auchenflower, Bardon, Brisbane City, Bulimba, Chelmer, Chermside, Coopers Plains, Corinda, Darra, East Brisbane,
