Southeast Qld braces for flash flooding

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for southeast Queensland, with damaging winds and heavy rainfall expected to lash the region.

Emergency services are warning residents to stay indoors as thunderstorms detected in the Darling Downs move towards the east.

The system has already drenched Pittsworth, southwest of Toowoomba, where 30mm to 50mm of rain fell in one hour.

Toowoomba also copped heavy rain with 27mm recorded in the 15 minutes to 10.10am.

The bureau is warning residents in the southeast to prepare for severe winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding.
