Dozens of cattle killed after truck crashes into Melbourne bridge

Authorities have confirmed 22 cows were killed after a semi-trailer crashed into a bridge in Melbourne overnight.

Police were called to the scene on Alexandra Parade in South Yarra about 8.25pm.

Emergency services arrived to find multiple cows jumping from the smashed truck and running on the street.

The driver of the truck was not injured, according to police.

Agriculture Victoria and veterinarians were called to the scene to assist the injured animals.

About 75 cows were involved in the incident, with the surviving cattle currently being assessed by Agriculture Victoria.
