South Australians are being urged to conserve electricity and run their air conditioners at a higher temperature after a fire at a power station caused an electricity shortage.

Three units at the Torrens Island Power Station were cut from the network at 3.35pm because of a blaze.

The nearby Pelican Point Power Station also tripped at the same time but the incident did not result in blackouts.

People are being advised to run their air conditioners at around 26 degrees and conserve electricity in order to avoid potential load-shedding.
