Elective surgeries in South Australia are set to gradually resume from February 7 amid a decline in active COVID-19 cases.

A pause in elective surgeries in the state came into place on January 2 to free up resources in the preparation for more COVID-19 hospitalisations from the Omicron wave.

In January, active COVID-19 cases reached above 35,000.

But Premier Steven Marshall said the number of active COVID-19 cases had now fallen below 19,000, signifying that South Australia has passed its Omicron peak.

On February 7, day surgeries in private hospitals will resume.

Seventy-five per cent of total surgeries in private hospitals will resume, while day surgeries in public hospitals will start again.

All private elective surgery will resume on February 21 along with category two surgeries in public metro hospitals.

On February 28 all elective surgery across public and private hospitals are set to completely resume.
