Son accused of murdering mother in 2011
A 21-year-old man deported from China has been charged with the bashing murder of his mother in Adelaide three years ago.
Wei Li, 21, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday after being arrested on Friday at Sydney airport upon his arrival on an Air China flight from Beijing.
He is charged with murdering Emma Mei Tian, 41, whose severely bashed body was found wrapped tightly in bedding in her suburban Burnside home on March 19, 2011.
Police on Friday said Chinese authorities recently advised their Australian counterparts that Wei Li was in China without a valid visa and would be deported to Australia.
Ms Tian's husband, the father of Li, who was a 19-year-old student at the time, was in China on business at the time of the killing.
Li did not apply for bail and the case was adjourned to the same court on September 16.
