Some Wendy's stores could close

Some Wendy's stores across Australia could close with a former master franchiser being placed in administration.

Corporate recovery company Ferrier Hodgson has taken charge of the affairs of Wendy's Supa Sundaes Ltd, established in South Australia in 1979.

Singapore-based company Supatreats Australia bought out the Wendy's brand a year ago and will continue to act as the master franchiser for most of the 200 or more stores across Australia and New Zealand.

Most of those stores will continue to operate as usual while a small number that have not reached an agreement with Supatreats will no longer be able to trade under the Wendy's brand.

Martin Lewis, from Ferrier Hodgson, said Wendy's Supa Sundaes was no longer licensed to use Wendys' intellectual property so would cease to operate.

He said Supatreats would be working with individual stores to restructure the business.

A hotline, 1300 766 369, has also been established for franchisees seeking further information and a creditors' meeting for Wendy's Supa Sundaes will be held in Adelaide on July 14.
