Snake 'peers' at driver through car window on highway

A driver isn’t likely to look at his car mirror the same ever again after a close encounter with a large black snake in New South Wales.

Images shared to Facebook show the reptile wrapped around the side mirror of the ute returning from Eden today.

Another snap shows the snake appearing to look directly at the driver through the closed car window.

Despite the unexpected visitor, the man behind the wheel - identified by ABC News as Ted Ogier - reportedly kept his cool.

"(The snake) had come out from under the engine bay under the bonnet, it was probably a bit warm there," Mr Ogier said.

He then called his co-worker, Kai Pearse, who removed the snake from the ute using a broom.

“I just ushered him into bushland off the side of the road,” Mr Pearse told the ABC.

It remains unclear as to how the snake, believed to be a venomous red-bellied black snake, found its way onto the vehicle.
