Toad bites off more than it can chew in battle of the species

Video of a fierce stand-off between a snake and a toad has left the internet guessing: who ate who?

The footage obtained by Thailand's Channel 3 on Friday shows the fighting toad with its jaws locked on the snake's head.

Despite the odds leaning towards its far larger counterpart, the amphibian appears determined not to let go as the serpent tries to wiggle free.

The clip was shared online by Chulalongkorn University biology Professor Jessada Denduangboripant, who cast his bets on the likely victor.

"It's the toad," he said.

The professor said this was not the first time he had seen the two species face off, although toads generally picked on snakes their own size.
