A smartphone app that tracks stress and anxiety could be the key for headache sufferers to monitor and prevent the condition.

Researchers at Griffith University on the Gold Coast are seeking headache sufferers to use a new smartphone app, as part of ongoing research into the condition.

The ENHANCE project is being led by Professor Paul Martin from Griffith Health Institute's Behavioural Basis of Health program.

Professor Martin has designed methods to help sufferers cope with headache 'triggers' such as stress and anxiety.

Now he and his team has developed a new smartphone app which helps participants track and monitor the occurrence of headaches and what brings them on.

The theory is that headaches are triggered by not just one, but several causes, and if managed properly, using cognitive behavioural therapy and other strategies, sufferers will be able to lessen the occurrence of headaches.

The ENHANCE project is currently seeking 120 participants between the ages of 18 and 75 years who regularly experience six or more headache days per month.
