Sleeping woman saved by smoke alarm in Hinchinbrook house fire

A smoke alarm has saved the life of a woman in Sydney’s west, when she woke to a blaze in her home and ran outside to a neighbour’s house for help.

The woman was alone at her house in Hinchinbrook, when the inferno broke out in the early hours of this morning and destroyed 75 percent of the home.

She immediately ran to a neighbour’s home and called emergency services.

More than 30 firefighters attended the scene and extinguished the blaze within an hour.

A NSW Fire & Rescue spokesperson said the fire was caused by an electrical fault in a spa.

The victim’s son said technicians had been at the home within the last week to fix the fault.
