Sledgehammers recalled over fears heads could fly off
Two sledgehammer varieties sold in Australia's biggest hardware stores have been hit with a product recall over fears the head could detach while it's being used.
Product Safety Australia issued the warning about the DeWalt Fiberglass Sledgehammers and Stanley FATMAX Fiberglass Sledgehammers.
The products were sold at stores across Australia, including a number of Bunnings, Mitre 10, Total Tools, Sydney Tools and independent hardware shops.

A number of these DeWalt model sledgehammers have been recalled. Supplied
The affected models for the DeWalt will have the following identification codes on the head: DWHT56024, DWHT56025, DWHT56026, DWHT56027, DWHT56029, DWHT56030, DWHT56141, DWHT56142, DWHT56147, DWHT56148.
The affected models for the Stanley, meanwhile, have the following identification codes on the handle: FMHT56006, FMHT56008, FMHT56009, FMHT56010, FMHT56011, FMHT56019.
PSA warned that the head of the affected hammers "may loosen prematurely and detach unexpectedly during use", posing a risk to the user or bystanders.
They were sold in national physical stores and online between August 4, 2014, and May 30, 2023.

Anybody who owns one of the hammers is urged to register for a refund and look for disposal information online here.
