Slain Brisbane bus driver to be formally honoured

Slain Brisbane bus driver Manmeet Alisher will be formally honoured today with a condolence motion by the Brisbane City Council.

Mr Alisher, 29, also known as Manmeet Sharma, was killed last Friday when he stopped his bus to pick up passengers at Moorooka and an incendiary device was allegedly thrown at him.

Moorooka man Anthony O'Donohue, 48, has been charged with his murder, as well as the attempted murder of the 11 other people on the bus at the time.

Mr Alisher’s brother Amit Sharma and members of his extended family attended a memorial service at the Brisbane Sikh Temple at Eight Mile Plains last night.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk, who was also at the service, told those gathered they will do everything they can for Mr Alisher's family, who travelled from India following the attack.

"I've set up an appeal to provide some financial support to the family, so that they can be supplied with the necessary funds to come to Australia when they need to during the course of justice," Mr Quirk said.
