The LNP candidate hoping to replace Mal Brough as the next federal member for Fisher will soon be decided by local party members.

Six people are hoping to be preselected for the Sunshine Coast seat, which was occupied by disgraced MP Peter Slipper prior to Mr Brough.

Former deputy mayor Chris Thompson, barrister Andrew Wallace, former ministerial advisor Ben Murphy, scientist Theresa Craig, construction contractor Con Hughes and retailer Roz White are all in contention.

LNP members of the Fisher electorate will vote for their preferred candidate at a party room meeting today.

Mr Brough announced he would not contest the 2016 election in February.

His decision spared the Turnbull government the potential embarrassment of having a candidate under investigation by police.
