Six cyclists injured in Sydney crash

Six cyclists have been injured, five seriously, after colliding with a car in Sydney's southeast.

The accident happened on Southern Cross Drive at Eastlakes about 8.30am on Sunday.

Police say two cyclists have been taken to St George Hospital, while the remaining four were transported to St Vincent's.

They are being treated for a number of injuries including "bumps, bruises and broken bones".

All cyclists were conscious when ambulance crews arrived.

Two northbound lanes are expected to remain closed for some time.

Motorists have been warned to avoid the area or expect significant delays.

The driver, who is in his 20s, was not injured in the incident and has been taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.
