Dash cam captures sisters stop toddlers walking on to busy road

A group of schoolgirls have been reunited with a two-year-old girl they saved from walking out on to a busy road.

The terrifying incident occurred yesterday afternoon when toddlers escaped from their Gold Coast daycare centre.

A passing car's dash camera captured the escapees playing on a footpath and wandering dangerously close to Foxwell Road at Coomera.

Fortunately sisters Chloe and Ellie O'Brien were walking their dog and sprung into action.

The pair told 9News how they managed to stop the toddlers and keep them safe until staff arrived.

"We saw behind us there were two little toddlers following us and they were going on to the road," they said.

"We quickly ran over. We told them to get back on the path and to pat our dog to try to distract them, and then one of the employees came out."

One of the toddlers' mothers, Amelia Finney, praised the sisters' actions.

"I'm very relieved and thankful for these two girls who saved her," she said.

After seeing the dash camera footage herself, she has now removed her daughter from the daycare centre.

"It was terrifying. Just seeing her on the side of the road by herself - I was nervous."

It's believed the children escaped through an unlocked gate at the childcare centre.

The incident is being investigated by the Department of Education.
