A two-metre sinkhole has opened under a major Queensland highway, forcing it to be closed.
Road authorities will travel to the Bruce Highway near Bowen on Thursday morning to inspect damage caused by the sinkhole, which police say swallowed part of the road on Wednesday night.
"It's reportedly about two metres and getting bigger," a police spokeswoman told AAP.
