Aussie rocker Carol Lloyd dies from lung disease

Carol Lloyd, the blues voice of 70s Queensland band Railroad Gin, has died in a Brisbane hospital after a long battle with lung disease.

"It's with great sadness to tell the world, @CarolRockChick has died peacefully today in the care of the Wesley Hospital. All my love angel," her manager Troy Armstrong tweeted last night.

Lloyd suffered from pulmonary fibrosis, a scarring of the lung. She was 68.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk was among those to pay tribute to the music pioneer.

"Carol was a trailblazer in rock'n'roll and she was passionate about encouraging the next generation of musicians," she said.

"She was a family friend and inspiration to me."

The Queensland government last year announced it would support the Carol Lloyd Award to be presented to an emerging female singer-songwriter who was either born or lived in the state.

In 2013, Lloyd made a personal decision to throw her own farewell party with a concert in Brisbane and to wed her partner Annie in a civil ceremony.

Railroad Gin have a plaque on Queensland's Walk of Fame on Brunswick Street in the Fortitude Valley along with The Bee Gees, Savage Garden, Keith Urban and Powderfinger.
