Police investigating head-on collision causing massive delays along Sydney Harbour Bridge

Police are investigating a serious collision at Milsons Point which has caused major delays along the Sydney Harbour Bridge this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene after reports of a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a ute at around 5.50am.

A 38-year-old male motorbike rider was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital with a suspected broken femur.

The 25-year-old female driver of the ute was not injured in the accident.

The motorbike rider has been taken to hospital. 

Specialist police from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit have launched an investigation into the accident.

Three citybound lanes and one northbound lane were closed for a significant amount of time during peak hour this morning causing huge delays for commuters.

All lanes have now been reopened, but major delays are still affecting the area, a spokeswoman for Transport Management Centre confirmed.

"Southbound traffic approaching the bridge is queued 12k kilometres, back to the start of the M2," she said. 

Motorists travelling towards the Sydney CBD from the north and west are advised to delay their plans. 

Buses travelling toward the city are delayed up to an hour and those taking public transport are advised to take trains.
