The inquest into the Sydney Lindt cafe siege will examine national security issues in secret hearings to be held in November.

After a two-hour opening address by counsel assisting the inquiry, Jeremy Gormly SC, on November 18, evidence will be heard in sessions closed to the media and public.

A final public session of hearings, examining the events of the December 15, 2014 siege itself, will be held in early 2016.
