Martin Place siege inquest suppression order challenged

Media organisations will apply for the lifting of a suppression order on the name of two public prosecutions solicitors at the Sydney siege inquest on Wednesday.

The inquiry into the December 2014 tragedy has heard evidence from a Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) solicitor who handled a 2013 bail application for Man Haron Monis when the future siege gunman was facing a charge of accessory to murder.

The solicitor's name has been suppressed, as has the name of another DPP solicitor who handled a second bail matter for Monis and is yet to give evidence.

Barrister Dauid Sibtain, representing News Corp Australia, the Nine Network, the Seven Network, Fairfax Media and the ABC, will ask NSW Coroner Michael Barnes to remove the suppression order at a hearing before the inquiry resumes taking evidence.

Mr Sibtain told the court on Tuesday there was "no basis" to restrain publication of the names of witnesses.
