Drive-by shooting of home where kids slept 'mistaken identity'

A man whose house was shot at in Sydney's west early this morning jumped in his car and tried to chase down the crooks.

Officers were called to Frank Street at Mount Druitt just before 2am today after reports of gunshots fired in a home.

Tui Puliuvea was out on his verandah, with his wife and three daughters asleep inside, when a car drove past his house and opened fire.

Luckily, the family car took most of the damage.

Mr Puliuvea, 51, was quick to jump in the car and chase after the shooters.

He drove for about two blocks but couldn't find them - luckily for him, police said.

"It was extremely dangerous ... obviously these people are armed," Detective Chief Inspector Paul Tickner said.

Police are now looking for a white hatchback, caught on CCTV just moments after the shooting.

They believe the attack was a case of mistaken identity.

"I don't know what for, I haven't done nothing wrong," Mr Puliuvea said.

"My family, we just go to work, that's it."
