Bill Shorten has tabled in parliament a letter from UK authorities confirming he renounced his British citizenship prior to being elected in 2007.
The opposition leader said he accepted that if he wanted to be elected prime minister there could not be any doubt about his constitutional eligibility.
"I offer this proof to the parliament today to put an end to baseless allegations, not reward them," Mr Shorten told parliament on Monday.
