Bill Shorten has vowed to work with the coalition if Labor wins government on Saturday.

The opposition leader believes the country will "work better" if the major parties co-operate, lamenting his frustration at "petty partisanship, so hostage to the whim of the prime minister".

"If I lead a government, I will include the opposition," he promised during his National Press Club address in Canberra on Tuesday.
