Shorten falls short on school funding

Labor has stopped short of promising massive increases in school funding to the states if it wins the next federal election.

State and territory Labor leaders have been pressuring federal Opposition Leader Bill Shorten to commit to the final two years of the Gonski funding plan, about $7 billion in 2018 and 2019, The Australian reported on Wednesday.

But when quizzed by reporters, Mr Shorten would only say Labor had the better record on school funding. "Always have been, always is, and always will be," he said.
