Shopping ‘hubs’ set to crop up across Brisbane

Lifestyle shopping precincts cropping up around Brisbane could raise nearby house prices and create jobs, as well as offering convenience for customers, experts believe.

“We're seeing retailers, bars, restaurants, cafes all coming together really creating exciting shopping precincts,” Dr Gary Mortimer, from the Queensland University of Technology's Business School, said. 

“This is very much about shopping local and supporting the little guys.” 

The developers behind James Street and Petrie Terrace’s Barracks precinct are planning a 21-storey tower for Toowong that will include apartments and shops. 

On Brisbane’s southside, a four-stage development at Woolloongabba will deliver new homes and a laneway boasting boutique retail outlets. 

Another lifestyle destination, called South Point, is underway at South Bank. It will include a café precinct, Woolworths supermarket, hotel, office and residential facilities. 

A new urban village has already helped boost business in Nundah.
