Sharks spotted feeding in Gold Coast lake

A school of bull sharks has been spotted in a man-made lake on the Gold Coast where residents and tourists are known to swim, ignoring warning signs.

Video obtained by 9News shows the sharks feeding on the edge of Lake Orr at Burleigh Waters.

The lake is a popular spot for fishermen, who have pulled sharks out of the water before, prompting the Gold Coast City Council to erect signs warning swimmers of the dangers.

"Every evening when I walk, especially, in the mid-section of the lake, they are hunting," one resident told 9News.

Another said she wasn't aware there were sharks in the lake.

"Some people still ignore the signs and jump in, they’re putting themselves at risk, but also the rescuers who might jump in after them," Councillor Hermann Vorster said.
