'Shadowy figure' seen near stabbed father at Sydney home, court hears

A father who was allegedly stabbed by his ex-wife in her Sydney home was found bleeding outside, with a "shadowy" figure seen just inside the house, a court has heard.

NSW Ambulance paramedic Stephen Talbot told the Downing Centre District Court today he arrived at the Neutral Bay home and found the victim sitting on the footpath clutching both hands to his chest.

Mr Talbot said there appeared to be someone just inside the open door of the house, but he was distracted by the patient.

"There was more of a shadowy-type figure," Mr Talbot said of what he saw at the scene in 2015.

Mr Talbot noted the man had a large slash under his chin and two stab wounds to his chest, and had lost a significant amount of blood.

He said the man was well-dressed and well-groomed.

"It's not something, when we're called to a stabbing, that you see - someone in a suit and not dishevelled," he said.

The man's ex-wife, who can't be named for legal reasons, is on trial after pleading not guilty to attempted murder.

Her lawyer said the stabbing was unintentional after the woman blindly wielded the knife during a fight in which she lost her glasses.

But the man has testified that his ex-wife tricked him into closing his eyes before stabbing him and screaming, "You'll never take (our son) away from me.

Detective Senior Constable Nicole Turner said the accused woman, who was pregnant at the time, appeared to have been crying.

"I noticed that the female had two lumps on her forehead and a bruise developing on her right cheek area," she said.

Det Sen Const Turner testified the woman told police she had stabbed her ex-husband once during the fight and had afterwards locked herself in the bathroom.

She said her son had been sleeping in his room, according to the detective.
