Strong storms sweep through Sydney's west

Large hail stones, heavy rainfall, lightning and damaging winds swept through Sydney's west ahead of a forecast storm that has since passed.

Strong storm fronts swept through Sydney's west, with heavy clouds rolling over Mount Druitt and Penrith making their way from the city's southwest to the northwest.

Dark clouds could be seen in the sky when looking west from the city's north.

Lake Burragorang, the Burragorang State Recreation Area, Nattai, Oakdale, Picton and Thirlmerewere were the first hit.

The thunderstorms were then forecast to progress northeast to Badgerys Creek, Camden, Cobbity, Oran Park, Menangle and Warragamba.

Areas west, southwest and northwest of Sydney were warned to expect flash flooding, but the Bureau of Meteorology has since cancelled their severe weather warning.

Penrith, Wollongong, Nowra, Bowral, Campbelltown, Braidwood, Katoomba, Bilpin, Araluen, Nerriga, Captains Flat and Bredbo ll experienced heavy rainfall.
