Queensland events cancelled, sporting teams exodus following lockdown

Several major events across Queensland have been cancelled following the announcement of today's COVID lockdown, with more potentially on the chopping block if restrictions aren't lifted come Friday.

Due to make its return after being cancelled last year, Saturday's Gold Coast Marathon has been cancelled.

The Wallabies vs France Test, originally moved to Suncorp Stadium for next Wednesday, has now had ticket sales postponed.

Other events falling off the calendar include the Brisbane Air Show, The Sanctuary Cove Food and Wine Festival and Moreton Bay's Bonfire Night.

Even the Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast Suns are hightailing it out of the Sunshine State to Melbourne, along with a Suns' game that was meant to take place at Metricon Stadium on Thursday.

Lions Coach Chris Fagan told 9News they have "no idea" how long they'll be forced out of the state.

"We're just going for one game as far as we know at the moment," Mr Fagan said.
