Senior Vic cop leak report to be released

A long-awaited report on allegations of leaking by a former Victoria Police deputy commissioner will be released on Wednesday.

The Independent Broad-Based Anti-Corruption Commission (IBAC) asked former Supreme Court justice Murray Kellam to report on the conduct of Sir Ken Jones over the alleged leaking of sensitive police information.

Sir Ken, who resigned in 2011, denies being behind the leaks and says his reputation has been unfairly tarnished.

In 2012, the ombudsman found former chief commissioner Simon Overland damaged Sir Ken's reputation by booting him out of the force early, despite having no evidence he was leaking information to the media.

Ombudsman George Brouwer said plans were afoot at least a week before former deputy commissioner Sir Ken was marched from his office in May 2011, despite being due to leave the following August.

Mr Overland wanted Sir Ken gone because he thought he had engaged in serious misconduct by leaking to the media, the ombudsman found.

The IBAC report is expected to be tabled in parliament on Wednesday morning.
