Senate urges govt to intervene in CSIRO

The Senate has urged the government to direct the CSIRO board to delay any cuts to jobs until after the federal election.

Labor on Monday won upper house support to call for ministerial authority to be invoked to direct the board to ensure meaningful consultation with research partners and staff.

The board should also direct management to take "immediate steps" to address staff morale due to the proposed hundreds of job losses, the motion said.
